Jacob C Edmonds

I'm Jacob, a Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa (Auckland, New Zealand) Resolve based Colourist known for my work in Non-Scripted TV and Music Videos broadcast locally and internationally.

I've spent the last decade on and off set, getting to know each level of the production. From my time as a Grip-LX assist-First and Second AC-DP-Edit Assist-Offline and Online Editor-I've done all the jobs large to small, in corporate sphere, TV and Film.

But nothing has given me nearly as much joy as the grade. I'm obsessed. After working briefly as a Film Technician for NZ's oldest running camera store, colour had very quickly become the focus.

Whether it be LUT creation for on set use, Dailies colour or the final grade, I've got you covered.

Let's be honest, the grade is the least stressful part of the filmmaking process. I don't mean to throw shade on the other parts, but I'm not wrong am I?

You've spent:
- Years trying to fund
- Months planning
- Weeks on set
- And countless hours labouring over the edit

It's always felt like your making a something cool but it's never quite been as satisfying as seeing all that work paid off. The on set LUT was good but this is something else. Everything is in it's full glory. There's no one else in the room with their phones out on set, actors to wrangle, continuity to consider. It's just pure magic. Better than you'd envisioned.

Of course there is the alternative. You've hired someone you just don't click with.

As a Colourist I share my job with one other crew member. The first AC.
We are both at the will of the DP
We are both helping the audience know where to look
If we've done our job correctly the cinematographer should get all the credit.

I love my job, I'm obsessed with colour science. I could tell you why 18% Grey is fundamental to the creation of split toning and film emulation. But you don't need to know that, you just want your work to look good. And so do I.

Whether it's the 18 camera reality show or the singular vision of the independent filmmaker. Let's talk about your next project.
